BRIGHTER DAYS
Transparency & governance

Open, accountable, built for community benefit.

We think an organisation asking others to trust it should be an open book. Here's how Brighter Days is set up, governed and held to account.

The asset lock

Where the money goes

Brighter Days has an asset lock. Whatever it earns or is given goes into the work, and none of it can be paid out to anyone as profit. If the organisation ever closes, what is left goes to another organisation with the same kind of lock, not to its directors.

How we're governed

How we are governed

Brighter Days has two directors, Fiona and Paul, who are married. Both are named at Companies House as people with significant control, and the registered office is their home address.

Fiona is also a director of Shropshire European Organisation and of Shropshire Bereavement Group, two of the organisations in the partnership. That is a matter of public record and it is also the reason the partnership exists: these are relationships she has built over years, not introductions arranged for a funding round.

Where any of us has an interest in a decision, it is declared and recorded before the decision is taken.

We intend to bring further directors onto the board who are independent of the partnership, and we will say who they are when they are appointed.

Directors are not paid for being directors. Any payment for work done is agreed and recorded openly.

Financial transparency

Where the money comes from

Brighter Days is paid for work it does, and it applies for grants. Today that is a mix of commissioned work with a university and paid services to other organisations.

Our first annual accounts are not due until 2028, so there is not yet a filed set of numbers to look at. This is what the picture looks like in the meantime.
