Brighter Days was started by two people who had seen, from different sides, what community organisations in Shropshire were carrying on their own.
What we are on paper is the least interesting thing about us
Fiona didn't set out to build an organisation. In 2020, Covid brought a vaccination centre to Shropshire and with it a quiet army of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Working cheek by jowl with people from every walk of life, she found friendships that have lasted ever since, and a first real look at the voluntary sector working quietly on the edges of every community, filling gaps that statutory services couldn't reach.
What she saw afterwards was great people offering great services to communities that need them. The problem is, without funds, support, guidance, expertise, and sometimes just a shoulder, they can struggle. A lot of the support on offer is arm's length: well-meant, but never really in the room and doesn't really take away your burden. This wasn't how Fiona saw it needing to work.
So she decided to do it differently. Brighter Days is a community interest company, incorporated in June 2026, built around that one idea: no organisation should have to carry all of this alone.
How it works
Each organisation stays exactly what it is. It keeps its own name, its own people and its own way of doing things.
What changes is that none of them has to work it out alone. They share what they have, they take on the bigger pieces together, and Brighter Days coordinates the joint work so that somebody is holding it.

Meet the team
Fiona Edwards
Director
Fiona Edwards (Fee) did not grow up planning to work in the community sector. That changed when Covid arrived, bringing with it a vaccination centre and a quiet army of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. That experience ignited something: she discovered the VCSE world working away quietly on the edges of every community, filling gaps that statutory services couldn't reach, led by people who had simply decided to do something about what they saw. She has never looked back.
Fiona brings expertise in project management, funding, and community development to Brighter Days, but titles don’t capture what she does. She is the person who picks up the phone when an organisation is drowning, makes the connection nobody else thought to make, and finds the funding nobody else knew existed. She does not manage expectations. She encourages, mentors, connects, and turns the seemingly impossible into reality. She champions community, not as a job title, but as a vocation.
Paul Edwards
Director
Paul is twenty-five years into a career in technology, most of it in large organisations: ten years at EDS, then UK CIO for a global technology company, and most recently the executive responsible for technology across a 2,000-person public sector organisation. Somewhere in the middle of that he worked out that the interesting problem is almost never the technology. It is whether an organisation knows what it is doing, can do what it needs to, can afford it, and will still be able to do it next year.
He came into the community sector sideways, sitting as a non-executive director with two small Shropshire organisations, and finding the same problems he had spent a career on being solved by people with far less to work with and a great deal more at stake. At Brighter Days he looks after the parts nobody puts on a poster: governance, money, systems, and the unglamorous paperwork that turns a good idea into something a funder can put their name to. He still builds most of it himself, which is part of why a young organisation can run on very little. Fiona knows the people and the work. Paul makes sure the organisation around it is solid enough to be trusted with either.
